A kickstarter project out of Lille, France is getting quite the attention, having already doubled their $150,000 campaign goal in the first days since its creation. Giroptic, which presents itself as the first full HD 360° camera, is shaped like an egg and fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, though it is meant for hands-free use, like the GoPro. It has the ability to record & stream video, in addition to its Full HD photos, making it the first product that allows users to make their own street view shots at a retail price of $499.

Like most 360° Image/video records, Giroptic is meant to be viewed on its own video player, though that includes iPad, iPhone, Web- and other interfaces.

Giroptic is the latest French hardware campaign to gain momentum, after Lima’s $1.2 Million campaign last September, as well as iSketchnote, which recently announced the opening of pre-sales for “Slate.” Kolibree, the connected toothbrush, has also successfully completed its crowdfunding campaign with $100,000+ of its $70K goal.

The product is expected to ship by November of this year.
