{"id":6061,"date":"2012-10-15T14:42:57","date_gmt":"2012-10-15T12:42:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rudebaguette.com\/?p=6061"},"modified":"2019-05-03T15:18:21","modified_gmt":"2019-05-03T13:18:21","slug":"ibm-iaas-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rudebaguette.com\/en\/2012\/10\/ibm-iaas-france\/","title":{"rendered":"IBM to launch Andromede Competitor IaaS in France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2477\/3739369480_1f285176c8_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"150\" \/><br \/>\nWhile Androm\u00e8de spawns Cloudwatt (Orange-Thales) and Numergy (SFR-Bull) continue to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lefigaro.fr\/societes\/2012\/10\/02\/20005-20121002ARTFIG00519-cloudwatt-veut-embrasser-la-revolution-numerique.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">toil over the details of their cloud offers<\/a>\u00a0[FR], IBM (aka Big Blue) has taken a big step towards establishing a strong position in the French IaaS (infrastructure-as-a-service) market by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telecompaper.com\/news\/ibm-opens-public-cloud-data-centre-in-france--901845\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launching a datacenter outside of Montpellier<\/a>. \u00a0This datacenter, which is at the heart of IBM&#8217;s French public cloud computing offer, is already operational and, actually, the seventh datacenter for them globally (the others are in Germany, Japan, Singapore, Canada and two in the US). \u00a0In fact, IBM already hosts and manages IT services for French giants Danone and Carrefour from this Montpellier location.<br \/>\nAlthough IBM have been a very vocal critic of the Androm\u00e8de project, they certainly have earned the right to have an opinion given the massive investment they&#8217;ve poured into the French market. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/15\/10\/2012\/LesEchos\/21291-117-ECH_--cloud-computing-----ibm-defie-les-nouveaux-specialistes-francais-cloudwatt-et-numergy.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In 2009, they started executing on their strategy<\/a>\u00a0[FR] to secure a strong position early on by investing a whopping \u20ac300 million in France to develop it&#8217;s cloud offer, followed by an additional \u20ac150 million in later years. \u00a0In addition, IBM is also a major employer in France, now employing 11k people here. \u00a0By establishing the datacenters physically in France, IBM is looking to counter Numergy and Cloudwatts principal reason for being, namely to offer a &#8216;soverign&#8217;
