The \u2018French Tech Ticket\u2019<\/a> <\/strong>is a program by the French government to attract \u2018gifted and ambitious individuals\u2019<\/strong> from all over the world<\/span><\/span>. It wants to encourage them to settle in France<\/strong>. The reasons for this are obvious. France is battling to become Europe\u2019s tech superpower. <\/strong><\/span>Attracting fresh new talent is a sure-fire way to gain an advantage whilst denying it to other competing nations<\/span><\/span>. It is also helpful for boosting France\u2019s income, as well as its influence on the world stage.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The scheme began on June 21st 2015<\/strong>, and attracted 722<\/strong> applications \u2013 to keep only 23<\/strong><\/span>. <\/span>These consisted of 49 entrepreneurs who joined the program as (usually) a duo, with the occasional start-up trio<\/span><\/span>. This time there will be 180 entrepreneurs across 70 international start-ups. <\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Requirements\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

To initial application requirements were as follows:<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
    \n
  1. \n
    Be an early stage<\/strong> start-up or have a start-up idea\/plan<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n
    Plan to develop your business in France<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  3. \n
    Be a team of 2 or 3 co-founders<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  4. \n
    Be an English<\/strong> speaker<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  5. \n
    Not be a French citizen<\/strong> (although at most one French citizen is ok<\/span>)<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  6. \n
    Working full time<\/strong> on the project<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
  7. \n
    Be ready to <\/strong><\/span>relocate<\/span><\/strong> to France<\/strong> by January 2017<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    And that\u2019s it! <\/span>An independent panel sifted through all applications and the few who succeed <\/span><\/span>were assigned<\/span><\/span> to an incubator<\/span><\/span>. Benefits include:<\/span><\/div>\n

      \u20ac45,000 funding per project <\/strong>in order to<\/span><\/span> cover both external and personal costs<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n

      A 12-month incubation period<\/strong> (ending soon) at one of France\u2019s leading incubators \u2013 both within the capital and in the wider regions of France<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
    3. \n
      Fast-tracked residential permits (the French Tech Visa<\/a>)<\/strong>, which cut through much of the waiting and red tape<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n
    4. \n
      Free master classes<\/strong>, networking events, tailored business support. Follow-up by an individual sponsor, annual Demo days with investors and business leaders. <\/span>A help desk for administrative formalities, and a soft landing pack to ease the burden of relocating to France<\/span><\/span>. And a practical guide to starting out in the host city.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The benefits are not only those provided by the program, but also from France\u2019s tech scene<\/strong> itself. France has the second largest venture capital ecosystem in Europe. The total venture capital investment reaching $2 billion for the first time in 2015.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
      \n
      France is also well-known for its history of creativity<\/strong> and innovation<\/strong>, keen to try out and adopt new technologies long before others<\/span><\/span>. This may be the reason they were one of the forerunners<\/strong> and founders<\/strong> of the modern digital age. <\/span>France has one of the highest percentages of researchers in their population in the world<\/span><\/span>. 9.3 out of every 1,000 people <\/strong><\/span>are involved<\/span> in research, development and innovation.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      France has more than 1.3 million engineers, 100,000 researchers and 400,000 Research & Development personnel<\/span><\/span>. The country ranks in 6th place worldwide for its gross domestic expenditure on R&D, with \u20ac47.5 billion in 2013.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Seasons<\/h3>\n

      There are a few changes in \u2018Season 2\u2019 of the French Tech Ticket program as opposed to \u2018Season 1\u2019.<\/span><\/div>\n
      \u2018Season 1\u2019 (S1) welcomed entrepreneurs to incubators and locations within the boundaries of Paris<\/strong><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n
      \u2018Season 2\u2019 (S2) will welcome entrepreneurs and entrants to several tech metropolises within wider France<\/strong><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      These will <\/span><\/span>be organised by<\/span><\/span> thematic<\/strong> and business<\/strong> areas<\/strong>, and there are now 41 incubators throughout mainland France<\/strong> which will host 70 of the winning projects in 2017<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

      Though S1 attracted 722 applications, S2 attracted 2700 applications from over 100 countries<\/strong>. The female\/male ratio is 25\/75 and the average age is 30 years old. The successful start-ups for S2 are:<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
