Two French start-ups have won the \u2018Paris Boston MedTech Award\u2019<\/strong>. <\/span>Awarded by the City of Boston and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, this award recognizes their innovation and potential for entry to the US market<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Part of an <\/span><\/span>extremely<\/span><\/span> successful medical company cluster within Paris, these young companies have achieved an <\/span><\/span>extremely<\/span><\/span> valuable opportunity above all other potential candidates<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Since 2012, French Tech Hub<\/strong> \u2013 the France-focused start-up supporter and incubator \u2013 has enabled French tech and medical companies to branch out into other areas of the world that would <\/span><\/span>normally<\/span><\/span> be beyond their reach, in this case the United States of America<\/strong><\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Boston is well known even within the United States for its history of technological and medical advancements<\/strong><\/span><\/span>.<\/strong> It is a fantastic place to spearhead an American expansion onto US soil. <\/span>It is home to some of the most prestigious hospitals and medical schools<\/strong> in the world, as well as the medical staff to match<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>It was home to the first real example of effective anaesthetic in 1846<\/strong> and has since then been a world leader in medical research and innovation<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Already a very healthy part of the Paris tech ecosystem, the two award winners \u2013 DAMAE Medical<\/strong><\/a> and Neurallys<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 now have the chance to become part of this rich and varied Boston ecosystem<\/span><\/span>. And it is something they will not pass up.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In the 5 years French Tech Hub have been helping French start-ups enter the US market, 13% of them have chosen Massachusetts as their base of operations<\/strong><\/span><\/span>. <\/span>This does not sound like a lot, until you realise that this means 26 separate French enterprises are now operating within the state thanks to French Tech Hub<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

DAMAE Medical<\/strong> is most well known for developing the innovative technology OCTAV<\/strong>, which provides dermatologists with the ability to produce in-depth images of skin tissue<\/strong> without the need for excision and processing \u2013 both of which are unpleasant and time consuming<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Founded by Anais Barut, David Siret and Arnaud Dubois, DAMAE Medical has managed to combine scientific and technical excellence to create revolutionary medical tools<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Neurallys <\/span><\/strong>is known<\/span><\/span> for its focus on cutting edge neurology, using minimally-invasive handheld medical devices<\/strong> to take measurements of the brain in the event of headache or other neurological symptoms<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>This provides the patient \/ sufferer with information on what may be ailing them, as well as recording information for future scrutiny by their doctor or neurosurgeon<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>The device <\/span>primarily<\/span><\/strong> measures pressure<\/strong> and offers self-diagnosis abilities to those who are using the equipment<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>This new technology <\/span><\/span>is used<\/span><\/span> primarily<\/span><\/span> for Hydrocephalus, the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain, and <\/span><\/span>is implanted<\/span><\/span> with a shunt system to allow aided diagnosis and pathology follow-up, with a particular emphasis on reducing the cost of healthcare<\/strong><\/span><\/span>.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Both of these start-ups impressed the bi-national jury enough to accept them, and will now begin operations within the city of Boston<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Past winners of this award have gone on to move their headquarters to the city and then hire <\/span><\/span>locally<\/span><\/span>, though it remains to <\/span><\/span>be seen<\/span><\/span> whether the same will be true of DAMAE Medical or Neurallys<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This has all been part of a long-running partnership between MassMedic<\/strong><\/a> (The Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council) and Medicen Paris Region<\/a> (Paris\u2019 primary organisation of medical companies within its famed medical tech districts)<\/span><\/span>. The aim of bringing the two cities closer together. <\/span>This with the help of French Tech Hub which has secured more than $200 million in venture funding<\/strong> for companies moving to the United States from France<\/span><\/span>. <\/span>This is <\/span><\/span>in addition<\/span><\/span> to the aid leveraged by Bpifrance, the French Government\u2019s \u2018Public Investment Bank\u2019 which aims to \u2018support the growth and internationalization of companies via innovation\u2019<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
