Among colleagues, I said that I wanted to organize an event that was the quality of LeWeb for the price of an Uber: accessible and valuable.\u00a0This Friday, April\u00a028th, we&#8217;ll organize the 10th consecutive quarterly edition of ParisFounders, which came after roughly 10 monthly bar meetups &#8211; 10 seems to be the magic number, because we&#8217;ve decided that this\u00a0edition will be our final edition. This edition is going to be by-far the most fantastic event we&#8217;ve organized.\u00a0We&#8217;ll talk to US companies about how they handle Paris, and Paris startups about how they handle San Francisco. We&#8217;ll talk about two of the most important upcoming events in Paris&#8217; startup scene that<em> aren&#8217;t<\/em> being organized by us, and, as someone who gets to choose the 5 finalists who will demo on stage, I can tell you we will have some\u00a0<em>awesome<\/em> startups demo-ing this Friday. Not to mention we&#8217;ll be returning for our final edition to Palais Brongniart (the &#8220;Bourse&#8221;), one of my favorite venues to host ParisFounders (mostly because it holds the most people).\u00a0 <\/p>\n<h3>Before we talk about Why, let&#8217;s talk about What<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"Untitled\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/139236669@N04\/24842502052\/in\/album-72157663969623510\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1701\/24842502052_0cd904f256_z.jpg\" alt=\"Untitled\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>#ParisFounders\u00a0has brought together nearly 5,000\u00a0Attendees over the past 10 editions &#8211; we&#8217;ve spent about \u20ac250,000 putting on these events, and have taken in about as much sponsorship from great companies like BNP Paribas, Microsoft, Orange, EDF, Airbus, United Airlines, but also from startups like Mailjet (easily our most loyal\u00a0startup client over the years), and VC Funds like Iris Capital &amp; Otium Capital.<\/p>\n<p>After our 10th edition, we will have\u00a0seen\u00a050 Startups demo\u00a0brand new products\u00a0on stage, including Front (YC), Wisemetrics (acquired), Phonotonic (CES Innovation Award),\u00a0Birdly (YC), Selectionnist (Venture-backed), NeverEatAlone, MarieQuantier (venture-backed), Prizm (successful Kickstarter campaign), Braineet (seed-backed), Popchef (seed-backed), 3DSoundLabs (Kickstarted-backed), Aircall (Venture-backed) &amp; Glose (crazy growth).<\/p>\n<p>After our 10th edition, we will have hosted 50 Founders, Investors &amp; Innovators, including Marie Ekeland, Quentin Sanni\u00e9, Didier Rappaport, Jerome Lecat, Thierry Petit &amp; Fred Mazzella.<\/p>\n<p>Fun fact: every one of eFounders&#8217; companies that has launched in the last 3 years has done so at ParisFounders. All the other startups have been sponsors.<\/p>\n<h3>Why this is our last edition<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"Untitled\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/139236669@N04\/24868488291\/in\/album-72157662216434104\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1476\/24868488291_3a6d0964a7_z.jpg\" alt=\"Untitled\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>I love organizing #ParisFounders, but, much like I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rudebaguette.com\/2015\/10\/27\/paris-founders-have-grown-up\/\">wrote about Rude Baguette last October<\/a>, as a media, at some point what you have been doing goes from being vital to being a standard &#8211; the Paris Startup ecosystem no longer needs the quarterly #ParisFounders Meetup. TheFamily organizes amazing (free) events, as do dozens of players around\u00a0Paris. When we began ParisFounders, speaking English at a local event was scoff-worthy. Now, it&#8217;s the norm. The norm is great, but Rude Baguette doesn&#8217;t want to be the norm &#8211; we constantly seek to make ourselves redundant in order to reach the next step. #ParisFounders\u00a0will always have been, at the time it was being organized, the best bang for your buck in terms of startup networking events; however, Paris doesn&#8217;t need a quarterly meetup. It needs something else. <\/p>\n<h3>Something&#8217;s coming&#8230;<\/h3>\n<p><a title=\"Untitled\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/139236669@N04\/25002315775\/in\/album-72157662302841313\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1463\/25002315775_601db69ed5_z.jpg\" alt=\"Untitled\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\nOn Friday, we&#8217;ll announce an event that I have been working on for the past 6 months, since our October edition of ParisFounders, when we brought 1,000 startupers together and\u00a0I looked and thought &#8220;we need to go to the next level.&#8221; After 2014, Paris lost LeWeb &#8211; yes, Loic is returning May 13th with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/paris.leade.rs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leade.rs<\/a>\u00a0to promote his new speaker bureau startup, which I&#8217;m\u00a0following attentively as someone who booked 500+ speakers a year &#8211; but Paris needs an event worth of the City of Light. We believe that not only is Rude Media\u00a0capable of organizing that event &#8211; we&#8217;re now a 12-person team managing 11 events per year &#8211; but we have an obligation to do so.<\/p>\n<p>I have been to 50+ tech events since starting Rude Baguette &#8211; I&#8217;ve spoken at most of them, been an attendee at few, and usually dawn the &#8216;press&#8217; status that gets the attention of article-seeking startups. Over the past few years, I&#8217;ve learned that three things make an event suck &#8211; and trust me, it&#8217;s less important to focus on making an event &#8220;great&#8221; (champagne, cover speaker expenses, political figures visiting) than it is to make sure your event doesn&#8217;t &#8220;suck.&#8221; The one does not counter-balance the other. Three things that make an event suck:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Making Founders Pay<\/strong>. You&#8217;re either Zuck, the next Zuck, or someone else. Two of three should come for free, and the other one shouldn&#8217;t come. It&#8217;s that simple.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Startup Stands.\u00a0<\/strong>Startup\u00a0stands are easy monetization for event organizers &#8211; trust me, we&#8217;ve sold hundreds of them. For some events, like <a href=\"http:\/\/connectedconference.co\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hardware events<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/hire.paris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recruitment fairs<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; they make sense. But for technology events, they are an indirect solution to the problem of meeting great people, and they usually don&#8217;t solve this problem because,<\/li>\n<li><b>Uninteresting Attendees<\/b>. It doesn&#8217;t matter who&#8217;s on stage &#8211; in the end, your experience and takeaway comes from other attendees.
