Most notably, I was watching Search as a Service Algolia, which I recently named <a title=\"WIRED asked me who I think are the 10 Hottest startups in France.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rudebaguette.com\/2014\/03\/25\/wired-asked-10-hottest-startups-france-said\/\">among the top hottest startups in France<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; the company is not necessarily raising a round of funding. They <a title=\"Algolia raises a $1.5 Million seed round from Index Ventures, Alven Capital &amp; Point Nine Capital to make Search not Suck\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rudebaguette.com\/2013\/10\/01\/breaking-algolia-raises-a-1-5-million-seed-round-from-index-ventures-alven-capital-point-nine-capital-to-make-search-not-suck\/\">raised $1.5 Million from Alven Capital, Index Ventures &amp; Point Nine Capital last year<\/a>, ironically they gained much of their traction when they applied to Y-Combinator last year and were rejected.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/abwWcMN87Q\">http:\/\/t.co\/abwWcMN87Q<\/a>: DB search as a service. In the above tweet, he mentions that, in fact, 500 Startups is already an investor in Algolia, through what appears to be a co-investment agreement that they have with Point Nine Capital.<\/p>\n<p>Point Nine raised their second fund of \u20ac40 Million in February 2013, and Dave McClure has been quite active in the Berlin scene in the past, though Paris has escaped 500 Startups for now. This might be the first 500 Startups in a French startup.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t tried Algolia out, you definitely should: they&#8217;ve done a nifty demo using the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hn.algolia.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hackernews<\/a>\u00a0thread, and they&#8217;re also powering <a href=\"http:\/\/producthunt.co\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ProductHunt<\/a>.
