I met the CookAngels team a few months ago at a dinner hosted by the Family, the Paris-based startup accelerator. They came with their product: all the ingredients needed to cook a meal worthy of a 2-star restaurant. Being a terrible cook myself, I though this was a pretty good idea – plus the dinner was delicious. I’m happy to share the news that they just raised €315,000 in funding.

In short, CookAngels is an e-commerce website where you can choose high-quality recipes (designed by Nicolas Beaumann, Chef at  « Michel Rostang », a two-star restaurant) and order a package of all-you-need-to-have to cook it yourself, including guidelines. To give you a hand, the package comes pre-cut and pre-peeled.

The startup was co-founded by Charlotte Sieradzki and Joy Solal, both marketing majors passionate about good food. They are convinced that more and more people are concerned with the quality of their meals, yet only a few of them know how to get inspiration for recipes and ingredients. Since their launch in March 2013, they got a 55% fidelity rate. Their round of funding, led by Elaia Partners and a few business angels, should enable them to recruit, optimize their web infrastructure and logistics and grow outside their test phase.

The French market already counts a good number of “Food boxes” (like La Bonne Box or Kitchen Trotter), yet Charlotte Sieradzki declares: “CookAngels has nothing to do with Food Boxes. It is more than an occasional experience, it’s an addictive concept that aims at becoming a true “Art de Vivre”.
