Web2Day announces Speakers & a startup competition!

Events

Web2Day, organized at La Cantine in Nantes, France, has opened up its earlybird and student tickets for its two day event coming May 31st- June 1st. The Rude Baguette is proud to be a Media Sponsor for the event, which has already lined up some pretty exciting speakers, including Paul Rouget from Mozilla, the infamous Cedric Giorgi, CEO of Comuto Frederick Mazella and many more!
The event will take place over two days, with topics ranging from the open web and html5 (go figure Paul Rouget will be speaking there), raising funding in France, Food & Tech and more – oh, and of course, there will be a startup competition going on throughout the two days. While most of the event seems to take place in French, there is one part of the event which will be distinctly in English: The Startup Competition.
Dedicated to all startups creating web / mobile applications or products, the competition is open to startups tackling any sectors – as long as you’re less than three years old. While there are no prizes yet announced on the website, the pitch panel will surely be enough of a practice: Olivier Ezratty (photographer, entrepreneur, startup author) and Richard Menneveux (CEO, Frenchweb) are regulars on these panels, and my experience is that their judgments are usually pretty spot on. Jeremy Uzan from Alven Capital Partners will join them, along with two jury members yet to be announced – I wonder if they need a Rude Jury Member?
I took a trip out to Nantes last September to see what was going on in the startup scene, and I was pretty blown away. The city punches in above its weight class for its size, and seems to particularly excel in digital creativity/design. Fellow writer Roxanne Varza attended last year’s event and participated in a roundtable event around the subject raising money in France – it seems some topics are always relevant.
If you’re thinking about going, the low ticket price will surely entice you. Tickets are on sale now and the early access tickets for both days are just €99.00 – a very low price for the quality the event brings.
