Making some of the first big news at CES, Netatmo has launched the revolutionary Welcome smart-home camera which through market-leading face recognition technology, recognizes each family member.  The goal with their new camera is to take the complication and headache out of in-home security as, via a the Welcome app, it sends the names of the people it recognizes to the user’s smartphone and alerts them when it detects an unknown face.

As privacy is an increasing concern, Welcome has been designed completely around respect for privacy. Users can fully customize privacy settings and decide whether or not to send notifications or store footage.  It also takes a local storage approach, storing all videos/footage on a local SD card rather than in the cloud, so users don’t have to worry about their videos or images being hacked, having to subscribe to a service or being assessed with extra storage fees.  Finally, access to the camera from the user’s smartphone is also secured by a bank-level encrypted connection.

It has a HD camera which captures clear images under any light condition, has a powerful infrared LED enabled night vision, has an extensive 130 degree field of view providing unprecedented coverage. And as an added bonus, it is made of beautiful anodized aluminium, giving Welcome a unique and pure design that blends seamlessly into any interior.

Welcome has already been a big hit at as it’s already been awarded with 4 Innovations awards at the “2015 CES Innovations Awards” in the following categories: “Smart Home”, “Home Appliances”, “Digital Imaging” and “Tech for a better World”, making it the third consecutive year, Netatmo has been recognized as an innovator in the Connected space.

Given the increasing elderly population as well as the prevalence of kids growing-up in  dual-income households, it’s easy to see the reassurance Welcome could bring to those parents and those caring for elderly parents.

Fred Potter, CEO and Founder of Netatmo adds: Netatmo is proud to present Welcome. Its outstanding technology makes today’s smart homes even smarter. Welcome addresses two major consumer needs: to know when their loved ones are home and to be aware if a stranger breaks into their residence. Welcome brings peace of mind to all family members.”
